About Us

Portland West Middle School is located just across the street from Portland High School in Portland, Tennessee. Portland West first opened in August of 2009. Since it's opening, the faculty and staff have continued to work hard educating students to Prepare, Work, Master, and Succeed in all areas of life.

During the 2014-2015 school year, PWMS achieved the highest TVAAS growth scores for math comparison in Sumner County, and the 3rd highest math comparison score in the state (out of 632 schools) and was named a 2015 TN Reward School! In 2022, PWMS again earned the distinction of being a TN Reward School.  And in 2024, PWMS achieved a Tennessee school letter grade of A!

The faculty, staff, and community partners of Portland West strive to build on past success and continually improve through quality teaching and extracurricular programs.
